Tae Kwon Do is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today. It traces its ancestry to the Korean martial art called Taekyon that was developed over 1000 years ago. Taekyon encompassed a barehanded and barefoot fighting style with great emphasis on kicking technique.
The first and largest of the Korean martial arts academies after the Japanese occupation of Korea was the Chung Do Kwan school in Seoul, founded by Grandmaster Won Kuk Lee.
Our Boston-area studio directly descends from the original Chung Do Kwan school in Seoul, Korea through our grandteacher, Master Duk Kyung Choi. Master Choi was the head instructor at the Chung Do Kwan studio in Seoul for nine years and was many times a Korean national Tae Kwon Do champion. Master Choi came to the United States in 1969 and founded the Chung Do Kwan school in Washington, D.C. We are proud to continue Master Choi's tradition of martial arts instruction and to practice his unsurpassed martial arts style.
Every class begins with stretching and basic form, preparing the body and the mind for our workout. Throughout the practice we investigate the philosophical and creative applications of the physical techniques and movements. Every class emphasizes the artistic connection between the body and the mind.
The classes are taught by an experienced team of black belt instructors: Mark Hronec, David Resnick, Tim Lee, and Yair Schatz.
